Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh’s brother arrested in high-profile drug case in Hyderabad
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Hyderabad, Aman Preet Singh, the brother of Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh, was arrested along with four others by the Hyderabad police. The arrest was made on Monday as part of a joint operation involving the Narcotics Bureau and Rajendra Nagar SOT Police under the jurisdiction of Cyberabad Police.
During the operation, authorities seized 199 grammes of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 35 lakh. The arrest included individuals identified as Aniketh Reddy, Prasad, Madhusudhan, and Nikhil Daman, alongside Aman Preet Singh. All five accused have tested positive for drug consumption and are currently held in police custody, pending a medical examination followed by a court appearance.
Srinivas, DCP of Cyberabad Police, Rajendra Nagar Zone, detailed the circumstances of the arrests: “As consumers, we picked up five people and brought them to the police station. All tested positive in the urine tests. They have now been taken into custody and will undergo detailed medical examinations.” He further highlighted that Aman Preet Singh and his associates included both Indians and Nigerians, some of whom are repeat offenders.
Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of Aman Preet Singh’s involvement in the drug network. “I will only comment on whom Aman is connected to once we investigate the case more,” stated DCP Srinivas. The police are exploring when his association with the accused began, which might trace back to a year and a half.
This incident comes after Rakul Preet Singh herself was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in 2021 concerning a high-profile drug case, marking another troubling chapter for the family in connection with narcotics.
This arrest underscores the ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking within major cities in India, reflecting broader societal issues related to drug use among the youth and celebrities. The involvement of high-profile individuals brings significant media attention, which can influence public perception and awareness about the severity of drug abuse.
