Bharat Dynamics Limited Hands Over First RF Seeker of Akash to DRDO

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) achieved a milestone by handing over the first Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker of Akash – Next Generation Weapon System to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This event took place at a special ceremony held at BDL’s Kanchanbagh Unit, where the state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre (SFC) is situated.

The RF Seeker, a critical and technology-intensive subsystem used in Surface-to-Air Missiles and Air-to-Air Missiles, was designed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat and produced by BDL at the newly commissioned SFC. This facility has positioned BDL alongside an elite group of companies worldwide with the complete capability for production of RF Seekers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, and Chairman DRDO, stated, “The establishment of Seeker Facility Center at BDL has enabled India to achieve self-reliance in the field of RF seeker production and contribute greatly towards realizing the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.” Commodore A. Madhavarao (Retd), CMD, BDL, also expressed pride in the accomplishment.

This achievement underscores a significant advancement in India’s defence capabilities, highlighting the country’s commitment to becoming self-reliant or “Atmanirbhar” in crucial Defence Technologies. The production of the RF Seeker and the inauguration of the Seeker Facility Centre represent strategic steps in strengthening India’s position in the global defence industry.
