Baba Ramdev Patanjali Ayurved forays into cow milk business

Dairy industry news : Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved has forayed into cow milk business by introducing cow milk and cow milk-based dairy products while setting its eyes on a target of Rs1000 crore in sales by FY2020.

The Haridwar-based Patanjali Ayurved had also tried out packaged drinking water, frozen vegetables, cattle feed free from urea and also solar panels, as part of its diversification strategy.

Patanjali Ayurved will now supply cow milk in Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Mumbai and Pune. The Baba Ramdev company, which boasts of a network of nearly 56,000 retailers, will distribute about four lakh litres of cow milk daily.

Baba Ramdev commenting on the company’s entry into the cow milk business said: “We are aiming to have a business of Rs 1,000 crore by next fiscal. This fiscal, we would have a business of Rs 500 crore”.

The Indian yoga guru said that his company is targeting daily sales of nearly 10 lakh litres of cow milk by FY2019-20. Baba Ramdev added: “We have set up a chain of our own collection centres and chilling centres in the last two years”.

Patanjali Ayurved will source milk directly from about one lakh farmers via its network and will push them to rear indigenous cow breeds. The Ayurvedic-based company plans to transfer money to farmers directly into their bank accounts.

The cost of Patanjali cow milk will be cheaper than other established milk brands by Rs 2 per litre and will cost Rs 40 per litre, said Baba Ramdev.

Along with regular cow milk, Patanjali Ayurved also has plans to roll out herbal flavored milk and other value added products in tetra pack formats.

Earlier, Patanjali Ayurved rolled out Divya Jal, its packaged drinking water brand, in the Northern and Western regions in India. The company intends to come out with natural mineral water and herb-infused water products in the future.

The Baba Ramdev company also entered into frozen vegetables business by launching green pea, mix vegetables, potato fingers and sweet corn products.

Baba Ramdev claimed that Patanjali Ayurved’s products would be cheaper than competitors. The company also launched Patanjali Dugdhamrit, a new brand of cattle feed without urea.

In the solar energy sector, the Baba Ramdev company has opened a solar panels manufacturing plant for producing panels around 60MW.
