Ameren Missouri expands renewable energy commitment with new solar facility acquisition
Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE), has officially received approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission to acquire a substantial new asset in their green energy portfolio—a 150-megawatt (MW) solar facility currently under construction in Cass County, Illinois. The newly named Cass County Renewable Energy Center is set to significantly enhance the scale of Ameren Missouri’s Renewable Solutions program.
Doubling Down on Renewable Energy
The acquisition of the Cass County facility is a strategic move aimed at doubling the capacity of Ameren Missouri’s Renewable Solutions program. This expansion reflects the increasing consumer and business demand for sustainable energy solutions, a priority highlighted by Mark Birk, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri. “Demand remains very strong for programs that bring businesses ready-made solutions to help them reach their sustainability goals,” Birk stated, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with participating organizations to drive regional investment and customer benefits.
Broadening Participation and Impact
The Renewable Solutions program has seen a surge in participation from organizations across Missouri, keen on increasing their renewable energy use and supporting local development. Notable participants include Air Products, bioMérieux, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Mastercard, SSM Health, Walmart, and World Wide Technology. These organizations not only contribute to the program’s success but also earn renewable energy credits, furthering their own sustainability commitments.
Strategic Growth and Energy Reliability
This acquisition is part of Ameren Missouri’s broader strategy to provide affordable and reliable energy across its service areas, which include 64 counties and over 500 communities in central and eastern Missouri, including the greater St. Louis area. With a legacy of over 100 years in electric and gas service, Ameren Missouri is poised to begin generating energy from the Cass County facility by the end of the year, alongside another key project, the 150-MW Boomtown Renewable Energy Center in White County, Illinois.
Ameren Missouri’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy offerings not only supports Missouri’s environmental goals but also sets a benchmark for utility companies nationwide in the shift towards sustainable energy practices.
