Online retail giant Amazon has launched ‘Global Store’ in India through which customers can buy products sold on the Amazon US website and pay for them in INR.

This move from Amazon is considered to be directed against its rival in India – Flipkart which has been leading the Indian e-commerce segment.

With the Amazon Global Store, Indian customers would get access to more than 4 million products from various international brands.

Amazon India vice president and country head Amit Agarwal has been quoted in the PTI saying: “Enhancing shopping experience for customers is one of the key pillars for us. With Global Store, customers in India will now have direct access to thousands of international brands and a starting selection of over 4 million global products.”

Currently, a wide range of products found on the Amazon US website will be available in India. The online retailer plans to add more categories and countries where Indian customers can buy products from on the Amazon portals.

Until now, Indian customers could buy products from the Amazon US portal. However, they had to shell down payment in US dollars. The latest move from Amazon will save money for the Indian customers and at the same time will give tough competition to Flipkart and also Snapdeal.
