US industrial gases company Air Products has revealed its intentions to build a new liquid hydrogen plant at its industrial gas facility at La Porte, Texas to address the growing product demand from various customer markets
The new liquid hydrogen plant, which will has a capacity of nearly 30 tons per day, will liquefy and supply the produced liquid hydrogen by means of trailers to various industries like electronics, chemical and petrochemical, metals, edible fats and oils, material handling, float glass and utilities.
Air Products is targeting to place the new liquid hydrogen facility in Texas in 2021.
Commenting on the new liquid hydrogen plant to be built in Texas, Marie Ffolkes -president, Americas at Air Products, said: “Logistically, our La Porte plant has several operational benefits which make the site selection for this new facility a good choice.
“We are confident with this additional capacity that we will be able to meet the projected growing liquid hydrogen needs coming from the varied industries in the United States for which a reliable source of this product is vitally important to our customers’ manufacturing operations.”
The Air Products liquid hydrogen plant at La Porte will source hydrogen from the company’s existing 965km long Gulf Coast pipeline system laid between Houston Ship Channel in Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Currently, the Gulf Coast pipeline system delivers more than 1.4 billion feet of hydrogen a day from 23 hydrogen production plants to customers.
In April, Air Products said that it has increased the supply capacity of its Gulf Coast hydrogen pipeline supply network by nearly 40 million standard cubic feet per day.
The industrial gases company said that the additional product supply comes from its Mont Belvieu hydrogen production facility in Texas, which processes an additional supply of hydrogen-rich off-gas from a propane dehydrogenation facility operated by Enterprise Products Operating, a subsidiary of Enterprise Products Partners.
