Adani Transmission to execute smart metering project for BEST Undertaking

Adani Transmission has received a contract from The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, a Mumbai-based civic transport and electricity provider, to execute the smart metering project on a design-build-finance-own-operate-transfer (DBFOOT) basis.

As part of the contract, Adani Transmission’s distribution platform will install 10.8 lakh smart meters and related communication and cloud infrastructure over a period of 30 months and maintain them for the following 90 months.

The smart metering project in Mumbai shall cover end-to-end smart metering for distribution infrastructure and end consumers of BEST Undertaking, according to Adani Transmission.

Smart meters are said to drive overall efficiency in electricity distribution and eliminate manual intervention in energy accounting.

In addition, smart meters will enable BEST consumers to monitor online consumption patterns and opt for pre-paid billing and net-metering facility.

BEST, by executing the smart metering project, can also execute remote connection and disconnection of non-paying consumers.

Smart meters are believed to enable the regulators to propose consumer friendly time of day tariffs, said Adani Transmission, which is the electric power transmission arm of the Adani Group.
