Vestas has secured an order to supply wind turbines for the 155MW Åby-Alebo wind project (Vindpark Åby-Alebo) in Sweden from Swedish energy company Stena Renewables.
As per the contract, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer will supply, install, and commission 36 V150-4.2 MW turbines in 4.3MW power-optimized mode for the Swedish wind farm to be built in Mönsterås Municipality.
Commenting on the Åby-Alebo wind project contract, Peter Zachrisson – CEO of Stena Renewables, said: “Stena and Vestas have a strong and long relationship that goes 15 years back. Vestas has proven to deliver high availability in our operating assets, which is the result of high-quality products and strong performance in the daily operations.
“We believe that the optimised V150 is a very good fit for the Åby-Alebo project and we look forward to develop our strong relationship in this specific project.”
Vestas will also provide its VestasOnline Business SCADA solution for the Åby-Alebo wind project. The solution is expected to reduce turbine downtime and optimize energy output of the wind turbines.
The Danish wind turbine manufacturer has also signed a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement with Stena Renewables.
Nils de Baar – President of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, commenting on the Åby-Alebo wind project contract, said: “We are delighted to continue our strong collaboration with our valued business partner Stena Renewables AB.
“This order further strengthens our market-leading position in the Nordics and also emphasises our ability to deliver energy solutions that offer the lowest cost of energy to the Swedish energy consumers.”
Vestas expects to start delivery of the turbines for the Swedish wind farm in the second quarter of 2021 and commission them during the third and fourth quarters of next year.
Prior to giving the turbine contract to the Danish wind turbine manufacturer, Stena Renewables awarded a contract to Kanonaden Entreprenad, a subsidiary of AF Gruppen for the Åby-Alebo wind farm. The SEK213 million contract is for design and construction of roads, foundations, and the electricity grid for the Swedish wind farm.
Vindpark Åby-Alebo is expected to break ground in spring 2020 and is designed to generate produce 500 GWh of wind power annually. This is the equivalent of powering nearly 100,000 detached houses.
