ONGC starts production from U1B deep-water gas well in Krishna Godavari basin

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation () said that it has commenced production from the U1B deep-water gas well in the KG-DWN 98/2 Block Cluster – II in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin.

Said to be the deepest well of Cluster – II, the U1B gas well is projected to register a peak production of 1.2 million metric standard cubic meters per day (MMSCMD).

, who is the Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), deep-water wells have a lot of production potential. He added that monetizing the U1B deep-water gas well is especially important for as the government’s first priority is to ensure that domestic production is boosted and imports of oil and gas are reduced.

The KG-DWN-98/2 project is in close proximity to the KG-D6 block of Reliance Industries. The block holds multiple discoveries that have been grouped by ONGC into three clusters — Cluster-1, Cluster-2, and Cluster-3. Cluster-1 and Custer-3 are yet to be brought into production.

The Cluster 2 field, which is divided into two blocks — 2A and 2B is expected to produce 23.52 million metric tonnes of oil as well as 50.70 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas.
