How Crompton Greaves is brightening Bengaluru’s future with cutting-edge LED street lights

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd., a prominent player in the lighting solutions industry, has completed a groundbreaking project on Bengaluru’s Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) in partnership with Shankaranarayana Construction Pvt. Ltd. (SNC) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This project marks a significant leap forward in road safety and infrastructure development on NH648, enhancing the vital 280-kilometer STRR corridor.

The STRR is a strategic infrastructure initiative designed to link 12 major towns around Bengaluru, aimed at easing traffic congestion and stimulating regional economic growth. As part of this effort, Crompton Greaves has deployed over 2,000 state-of-the-art LED streetlights along a 42-kilometer stretch between Dobaspete and Doddaballapur. This deployment involves the installation of more than 1,300 poles equipped with high-efficiency LED lights ranging from 220W to 270W. These advanced lighting solutions are crucial for meeting the stringent illumination standards set by NHAI.

Crompton’s high-performance LED streetlights are engineered for superior functionality and durability. The luminaires feature pressure die-cast aluminum housing, which provides exceptional strength and longevity. They are protected by toughened glass and an IP66 rating to safeguard against harsh environmental conditions. The advanced secondary optics ensure uniform illumination, while the high lumen efficacy—exceeding 125/135 lumens per watt—delivers maximum light output. The lights are also built to withstand external shocks with an IK08 impact resistance rating and include advanced electronics with 4KV + 10KV surge protection for reliable operation.

The deployment of these LED streetlights is not only a leap forward in terms of road safety and visibility but also represents a major step towards environmental sustainability. Compared to traditional lighting solutions, Crompton’s LEDs offer up to 50% energy savings, significantly reducing carbon emissions and supporting global environmental goals.
