5C Data Centers (“5CDC”), a leading provider of advanced data center solutions, has revealed its strategic expansion through the acquisition of a significant site in Columbus, Ohio. This move sets the stage for the development of one of North America’s largest data center campuses, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth trajectory.
Located in a rapidly growing data center market, the newly acquired site spans over 1,742,400 square feet and includes a functional 66,000 square foot data center, known as CMH01. 5CDC has ambitious plans to augment this facility with an additional 320,000 square feet of data center capacity, catering primarily to hyperscale, AI, and cloud customers. This expansion is anticipated to greatly enhance 5CDC’s capacity to deliver high-performance data center services.
In collaboration with local utility providers, 5CDC has secured 200MW of power for the site, with the initial 100MW expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2025. The project’s first phase has already been fully leased, with full capacity expected to be delivered by the third quarter of 2024. This development underscores the site’s potential for significant scalability and future growth.
Steve Perez, Founder and President of 5CDC, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, noting the strong interest from key clients which led to the early sell-out of the first phase. Nick Etscheid, Chief Corporate Development Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of the Columbus location due to its strong market fundamentals and scalability, which are crucial for their mega-campus strategy.
Benjamin Basson, Senior Vice President of Business Development, emphasized the positive economic impact of the expansion, including the creation of high-quality jobs and the company’s commitment to sustainability in line with community values.
5CDC’s expansion is not only a business move but also a commitment to community and environmental sustainability. The company is actively engaged in initiatives that align with local sustainability goals, ensuring that their expansion brings not only economic but also ecological benefits to the area.
This strategic expansion by 5CDC into Columbus is a significant development in the data center industry, particularly for the Midwest. By establishing a major hub in this region, 5CDC is positioning itself at the forefront of supporting advanced technology deployments. Their focus on sustainability and community engagement further enhances their corporate responsibility profile, making them a notable example of how businesses can grow while positively impacting their surroundings.
