‘Kalki 2898 AD’, featuring stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, has quickly become a box office sensation, amassing an impressive Rs 150 crore in just two days. Despite a modest start on Friday, the film’s earnings skyrocketed, promising a lucrative weekend ahead.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ opened to Rs 95.3 crore, with audiences particularly flocking to see it in the Telugu states, where it debuted with Rs 65.8 crore. However, the film saw a significant drop in the Telugu market on its second day, earning between Rs 24–25 crore, contrasting sharply with its stable Rs 20 crore business in the Hindi-speaking regions. This unusual trend highlights the film’s uneven performance across different markets.

The sci-fi drama is poised for a potential total of Rs 500 crore over its four-day weekend, should it manage to double its daily earnings as anticipated. The film’s performance so far is on par with Prabhas’s previous hit, ‘Salaar-Part I: Ceasefire’, but still lags behind the monumental success of ‘Baahubali 2’, which had garnered Rs 90 crore on its second day alone. In contrast, ‘Adipurush’ only managed Rs 65.25 crore on its equivalent day, placing ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in a strong position for future earnings.

The mixed word-of-mouth might pose a challenge for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, but its visual spectacle and star power could still drive its success. The key will be its performance on Saturday, which could either solidify its status as a blockbuster or see it falter under expectations.
