Walmart has officially opened its largest-ever fulfillment center in McCordsville, Indiana, bringing a blend of technology, machine learning, and new career opportunities to the region.
Located 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, the 2.2 million-square-foot facility is expected to accelerate order fulfillment and expedite next- or two-day shipping across the nation.
The Walmart McCordsville fulfillment center is the second of four next-generation facilities planned by the retail giant. Leveraging advanced technology and machine learning, these centers aim to significantly enhance Walmart.com’s order fulfillment capacity. With the addition of these advanced fulfillment centers, Walmart intends to extend its reach to 95% of the US population with its fast shipping services.
The new facility will also host Walmart Fulfillment Services, an end-to-end third-party service designed to fulfill Marketplace items. Besides expanding shipping capabilities, this advanced technology also paves the way for new career pathways, including tech-focused positions, while ensuring job comfort for associates.
More than 1,000 associates are expected to find their professional home at the McCordsville fulfillment center. The opening underlines Walmart’s commitment to supporting local communities, reflecting in its employment of over 43,000 associates in Indiana and its fiscal year 2023 expenditure of $1.1 billion with local suppliers, thus supporting 33,373 Hoosier supplier jobs.
