Walmart Canada to build $45.5m distribution center in Moncton

Walmart said that it is constructing a distribution center in , New Brunswick, its first in the Atlantic Canada region, with an investment of over CAD56 million ($45.56 million).

The new distribution center in Moncton will supply fresh and frozen groceries for the retailer’s 43 Atlantic Canada stores.

According to Walmart Canada, the new facility, which is part of its five-year investment of CAD3.5 billion ($2.84 billion), will help in better product availability and quicker service for customers.

To be located at 125 Frenette Ave, the 221,000sft Moncton Walmart distribution center is scheduled to open fall 2022.

Over 200 jobs are set to generated at the new Walmart distribution center in Moncton apart from construction and engineering roles.

Blaine Higgs – Premier of New Brunswick said: “Walmart’s decision to locate its Eastern Canadian Distribution Centre here in Moncton is a both welcome news and a recognition of the city and province’s growth advantage.

“The importance of supply chains is well understood after the past year of upheaval. Moncton and its vast supply chain apparatus of distribution centres, excellent roads, rail connection, air links as well as top calibre people have helped keep the region going.”

In addition to the Moncton facility, Walmart Canada is constructing distribution centers in Surrey, and Vaughan, Ontario, which are expected to open in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
