Vinci bags €417m transport infrastructure projects in Czech Republic

French construction leader Vinci Construction has won two major contracts in the Czech Republic, valued at a combined €417 million. These projects, awarded by the Ministry of Transport, underscore the company’s pivotal role in modernising the region’s transport networks. The contracts include the construction of a vital section of the Prague Ring Road and a comprehensive upgrade of the Česká Třebová rail hub, addressing critical infrastructure challenges with sustainable practices.

Expanding the Prague Ring Road for Better Urban Mobility

A consortium comprising Vinci’s Czech subsidiaries, Eurovia CZ and Stavby mostů, alongside Austrian construction giant PORR, has been tasked with building a 12.6-kilometre stretch of the Prague Ring Road. The eastern section aims to reduce traffic congestion in the capital by diverting through-traffic to this new bypass.

With a project value of €385 million, this ambitious initiative includes constructing 19 bridges, two tunnels, and pedestrian and cycling-friendly infrastructure. Noise barriers will also be installed to protect nearby communities from increased traffic sounds. The project is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with completion expected by 2027.

This initiative, led by a consortium including Eurovia CZ, Strabag, Chláděk & Tintěra Pardubice, and EŽ Praha, has a total budget of €663 million. Vinci holds a 34% stake in the project, which will improve freight efficiency and safety standards.

Key upgrades include refurbishing existing tracks and installing the European Train Control System (ETCS), a cutting-edge rail signalling system. The project’s emphasis on sustainability is evident, as materials for the revamp will be transported by rail to minimise environmental impact. Construction will begin in 2025 and extend until 2032, showcasing Vinci’s long-term commitment to sustainable infrastructure.
