Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta, has submitted the field development plan (FDP) for the Jaya field in Gujarat’s Bharuch district. The Jaya gas and condensate discovery, part of the block CB-ONHP-2017/2, is a landmark achievement under India’s Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP).
The block, one of 41 awarded to Cairn Oil & Gas in the OALP-I auctions, represents a significant step towards achieving the company’s goal of doubling production capacities and driving energy self-sufficiency, or aatmanirbharta, for India. Cairn holds a 100% participating interest in this block, making it a critical asset in their portfolio.
Dr. Steve Moore, Deputy CEO of Cairn Oil & Gas, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We are delighted to have progressed to Jaya discovery to its FDP and ready to begin production from Jaya block. At Cairn Oil & Gas, driving new exploration is a key pillar as we strive towards our goal of achieving 50% contribution to India’s domestic oil and gas production.”
During its appraisal phase, the Jaya field pioneered the use of truck-mounted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits to evacuate test gas. This innovative approach enabled Cairn to minimize gas flaring, aligning with its decarbonization vision, while simultaneously monetizing the gas and catering to national energy needs.
Cairn’s use of Advanced Rock Physics and Seismic Inversion technology has been pivotal in identifying subsurface sweet spots in the Jaya area. The cluster of prospects identified can be developed through tieback to the Jaya facility, demonstrating Cairn’s commitment to cutting-edge technology and sustainable development.
The FDP for the Jaya field symbolizes a new asset in the western region of India, supporting both economic and sustainable development. Cairn Oil & Gas continues to set benchmarks in exploration and production, contributing significantly to India’s energy security.
