Urbint acquires WRM Software to enhance storm response for utilities
Urbint, a leader in AI solutions for threat detection and safety in critical infrastructure, has announced its acquisition of WRM Software, a top provider of utility incident management and storm response. This merger significantly expands Urbint‘s capabilities, integrating WRM’s expertise in storm response, thus reinforcing Urbint’s position as a premier provider of operational risk mitigation solutions to the energy and critical infrastructure sectors.
The acquisition comes at a critical time as utilities face increasing challenges from more frequent and severe weather events. “As storms become more frequent and extreme, utilities face unprecedented challenges keeping the power on,” said Corey Capasso, Founder and CEO of Urbint. “It’s more important than ever for utilities to prioritize and streamline their storm response efforts based on an accurate picture of risk and available resources. Combining Urbint’s AI capabilities with WRM’s incident management applications will give utilities the ability to restore power faster during major weather events.”
Richard Addotta, CEO of WRM Software, highlighted the long-standing reliance of major utilities on WRM’s services and expressed optimism about the merger’s potential. “Joining forces with Urbint allows us to scale our solutions to even more utilities, and enables us to provide an enhanced offering for managing end-to-end storm response.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports a 190% increase in billion-dollar natural disasters in the U.S. from the 2000s to the 2010s, with 102 such disasters recorded in the last five years alone. This trend underscores the urgent need for improved utility response capabilities.
The integration of Urbint and WRM is set to transform how utilities manage and respond to severe weather disruptions. Tom Kuhn, former President and CEO of the Edison Electric Institute, remarked, “When a natural disaster strikes, utilities are inundated with infrastructure damage and outages. This combined offering will be a game-changer for the industry.”
This acquisition by Urbint is strategically significant, enhancing the company’s ability to offer cutting-edge, AI-driven solutions that improve emergency response and operational efficiency for utilities facing severe weather events.
