Tyson Foods chicken production facility to be built in Humboldt, Tennessee

Food industry news : Tyson Foods, a leading US meat processing company will build a new chicken production facility in Humboldt in Gibson County, Tennessee with an investment of over $300 million to help the company address the strong consumer demand for its chicken products.

Originally, the Tyson Foods poultry production plant was supposed to be built near Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County, Kansas. But the meat processing giant had to back off from its plans following fierce opposition from thousands of Tonganoxie residents.

Tyson Foods, which has been forced to look for alternatives for its new poultry processing factory has settled to build it in the City of Humboldt. The poultry processing plant is expected to create over 1,500 jobs once it begins its chicken processing operations in late 2019.

“The new facility will be Tyson’s fifth location in Tennessee and it means a great deal that a company of this magnitude continues to grow its footprint in our state. I appreciate Tyson for its continued commitment to Tennessee and for helping us get one step closer to our goal of making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”

Tyson Foods plans to use the Humboldt poultry plant for producing pre-packaged trays of fresh chicken which in turn will head to various retail grocery stores in the US.

The Tyson Foods poultry processing plant will be designed to process 1.25 million birds per week, which would boost the overall production capacity of the US food processing company by the same figure.
