Tonsils meaning: Tonsils are the infection fighting organs which may be sometimes infected when they are supposed to fight and remove the infections out of the body.
Tonsils are the important organs of our immune system which restrict the entry of bacteria and viruses into the body.
Tonsils look like almond and are located at the back of the mouth one on each side.
Tonsils may be infected when they try to stop germs, the situation may aggravate so the infection should be controlled in the beginning itself by following home remedies immediately.
Causes of tonsillitis
Tonsillitis may be caused due to bacterial or viral infection. Bacteria causing sore throat or strep throat may cause infection to the tonsils.
In some cases, allergens may also cause tonsillitis. Cold foods like ice creams and cold drinks are the cause of tonsillitis to some people who are allergic to them. Sour and spicy foods can also result in tonsillitis.
Tonsillitis is common in some families and the sudden drop of temperature can trigger tonsillitis in them as it brings down the immunity level.
Symptoms of Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis means painful swelling and redness of the tonsils. Due to swelling of the tonsils, it becomes difficult to swallow; even the swallowing of saliva becomes a painful experience.
The throat pain can reach upto ears as well and the infection can cause fever when it is severe. We can notice change in voice or there may be temporary loss of voice in few cases.
Throat abscess is common in acute tonsillitis and white pus filled patches, abscess filled lesions can be noticed inside the throat. This condition will be very painful.
