Superstar Rajinikanth has done it again! His latest cinematic spectacle, ‘Jailer’, is wreaking havoc at the box office, smashing past the monumental $20 million mark in overseas collections alone, as of Sunday.
‘Jailer’, famously coined as Thalaivar 169, has stormed its way into the elite $20 million overseas club, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Tamil blockbuster giants 2.0 and Ponniyin Selvan: 1.
But wait, there’s more for Rajini fans to cheer about! According to renowned film trade pundit, Manobala Vijayabalan, ‘Jailer’s international earnings have blazed past Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Beast’, registering a whopping Rs 166.31 crore, in contrast to Beast’s entire global run of Rs 153.64 crore.
Closer to home, ‘Jailer’ is no less a titan, raking in Rs 288.55 crore to date. The movie minted an impressive Rs 235.85 crore in just its debut week, with its second weekend further swelling its coffers by a cool Rs 45.7 crore. Adding another feather to its cap, ‘Jailer’ notched 2 crore theatre footfalls on its second Sunday, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’.
In stark contrast, Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bholaa Shankar’, the Telugu adaptation of Ajith’s ‘Vedalam’, grapples to reach the Rs 30 crore mark even after 11 days since its grand premiere. Its earnings till date stagger at a mere Rs 29.32 crore, with second-weekend collections barely ticking past the Rs 0.42 crore mark.
So, what’s the buzz all about? ‘Jailer’, under the expert direction of Nelson Dilipkumar, paints the riveting tale of a retired jailer’s valiant quest to rescue his son from a cunning artifact thief targeting Hindu temples. The star-studded ensemble cast includes Rajinikanth, Tamannah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, and Vasanth Ravi.
As for ‘Bholaa Shankar’, helmed by Meher Ramesh, the narrative orbits around a devoted brother’s vengeance journey against a malefactor who wronged his sister. The film boasts of a stellar lineup featuring Chiranjeevi, Tamannah Bhatia, Keerthy Suresh, and other luminaries.
