Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand’s leading mobile network operator, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Oracle to introduce the nation’s first locally owned and operated hyperscale cloud. This strategic move will see the deployment of Oracle Alloy, enabling the launch of AIS Cloud, which promises to offer comprehensive cloud solutions, including over 100 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services with cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

In a significant development for Thailand’s digital infrastructure, AIS will utilize Oracle Alloy to provide both public and private sector organizations across the country with a robust cloud environment. This initiative is expected to address key data residency and sovereignty concerns, aligning with Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and Cybersecurity Act. The new hyperscale cloud will feature in-country disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring high business resilience.

AIS, with its extensive history of delivering mobile network services to more than 45 million subscribers, aims to leverage the power of hyperscale cloud technology to enhance its service offerings. Somchai Lertsutiwong, CEO of AIS, emphasized the long-term benefits of this collaboration. He noted that AIS has a track record of advancing digital technology infrastructure over its 34-year history. The partnership with Oracle Alloy is set to accelerate AIS’s transformation from a telecommunications provider to a technology company, thus supporting Thailand’s broader digital transformation goals. Garrett Ilg, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Japan & Asia Pacific at Oracle, underscored the strategic importance of Thailand for Oracle. The local expertise of AIS combined with Oracle’s cloud technology positions them well to meet the specific demands of Thai customers and regulatory requirements.

Daphne Chung, Research Director at IDC Asia/Pacific, highlighted the increasing importance of sovereign cloud solutions in the region. IDC forecasts a significant rise in spending on sovereign cloud at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.5% in Asia-Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ). This trend underscores the growing need for compliant and resilient cloud infrastructures.
