A mass shooting at a pub in Toronto’s Scarborough district left 12 people injured late Friday night, as police launched a manhunt for three male suspects who stormed the venue and opened fire. The Toronto Police Service confirmed that the attack occurred at Piper Arms Pub near Scarborough Town Centre at approximately 10:39 p.m.
Authorities reported that six individuals sustained gunshot wounds, though none were life-threatening, while the other six suffered injuries from shattered glass and debris. Law enforcement officials described the shooting as a reckless act of violence that has deeply shaken the city.
Superintendent Paul MacIntyre of the Toronto Police Organized Crime Unit stated that three armed men entered the pub and immediately began shooting without warning. One of the assailants was allegedly carrying an assault rifle, while the other two were armed with handguns. Security footage reviewed by investigators showed the suspects firing indiscriminately into the crowded establishment.
Police Deploy Resources Amid Search for Armed Suspects
Authorities have not made any arrests but confirmed that a suspect wearing a black balaclava was seen fleeing the scene in a silver vehicle shortly after the attack. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw assured the public that all necessary resources had been deployed to track down the gunmen.
“This was a brazen and reckless act that put dozens of innocent lives at risk,” MacIntyre said during a press briefing. “We are actively pursuing leads and will not rest until these individuals are brought to justice.”
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow echoed these sentiments, stating on social media that she had spoken with Demkiw, who assured her that investigators were fully mobilized. “This incident is deeply troubling, and my thoughts are with the victims and their families,” Chow said.
Victims ‘Extremely Lucky’ to Survive Mass Shooting
Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes of the shooting, finding multiple victims in distress. All 12 injured individuals were transported to local hospitals, where medical teams treated them for a range of wounds.
MacIntyre emphasized that, given the nature of the attack, it was fortunate that no fatalities were reported. “These victims are extremely lucky,” he said. “Given the type of weapons used, the outcome could have been much worse.”
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation. Residents near Scarborough Town Centre were advised to remain cautious as authorities continue their search for the suspects.
Community Reacts as Investigation Continues
The shooting has reignited concerns about public safety and gun violence in Toronto, with residents calling for stronger measures to prevent similar incidents. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack, and it remains unclear whether the shooting was targeted or random.
“This kind of violence is unacceptable,” one eyewitness told reporters. “People were just trying to enjoy their night, and suddenly they were running for their lives.”
Police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds. They are urging anyone with surveillance footage or additional details to contact law enforcement.
