Tejas Networks Selected for BharatNet Connectivity Project in Tamil Nadu
Tejas Networks, a leading player in broadband equipment and networking solutions, has been chosen as the primary supplier for the BharatNet Last Mile Connectivity (LMC) project in Tamil Nadu. This state-led initiative, implemented by Tamil Nadu FibreNet Corporation Limited (TANFINET), is a major step towards bringing affordable, high-speed internet to thousands of rural areas across the state.
As the selected broadband equipment provider, Tejas Networks will supply its advanced GPON OLT, ONT, and management systems to support this ambitious project. The LMC project aims to deliver high-speed internet to 50,000 government institutions, public health centres, and schools. In addition to these institutional connections, the project will lay the groundwork for Fiber to the Home (FTTH) services, targeting rural households in Tamil Nadu. This will be achieved through collaborations with local telecom service providers and cable operators.
The selection of Tejas Networks as the broadband equipment supplier comes at a time when India is prioritizing digital inclusivity, especially in underserved rural regions. The BharatNet LMC project is part of a broader effort to enhance the digital infrastructure in India, with the goal of connecting remote areas to the global digital ecosystem.
Tejas Networks’ Role in Rural Broadband Expansion
Mr. Arnob Roy, the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tejas Networks, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that the company’s modular, high-performance products are an ideal fit for this high-profile national initiative. “Our multi-gigabit GPON/XGS-PON products are designed to deliver enterprise-grade quality, ensuring both resiliency and future-proof capabilities. We are proud to be a technology partner in such significant FTTH rollouts, both domestically and internationally,” he said.
In his remarks, Mr. Sunil Handoo, Vice President of Sales at Tejas Networks, highlighted the socio-economic impact of the broadband rollout. “The BharatNet LMC project will allow rural Tamil Nadu’s citizens to experience the benefits of high-speed broadband, improving their quality of life. This project will not only help in digital education and e-health services but also drive economic growth,” he said.
A Technological Leap for Tamil Nadu
The collaboration between Tejas Networks and TANFINET marks a technological leap for Tamil Nadu’s digital infrastructure. This project will also support India’s broader digital inclusion strategy, which aims to connect millions of rural citizens with the resources and services available in urban areas. The inclusion of FTTH services will have a lasting impact, offering residents reliable and affordable internet services that were previously unavailable.
As part of the Tata Group, Tejas Networks brings over 75 years of expertise in designing high-performance networking products. With a focus on research and development, Tejas Networks is leading the way in creating innovative networking solutions. As an IPR and R&D-driven company, Tejas Networks’ solutions have garnered recognition for their robustness and scalability.
The Future of Rural Connectivity
The BharatNet project, along with Tejas Networks’ involvement, represents a crucial development in India’s drive to bridge the urban-rural digital divide. This project is poised to help thousands of rural households access the same high-speed connectivity that urban areas enjoy, empowering communities and transforming everyday life.
As rural India embraces digital connectivity, the infrastructure established through the BharatNet initiative will provide critical support for telemedicine, online education, and e-commerce, offering new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike. The collaboration between Tejas Networks, TANFINET, and local partners ensures that Tamil Nadu will be at the forefront of this digital transformation.
Tejas Networks’ involvement in the BharatNet Last Mile Connectivity project is a testament to the company’s growing influence in the broadband equipment market. As the demand for reliable, high-speed internet increases, Tejas Networks is positioned as a key player in shaping the future of India’s rural broadband connectivity. This project is set to redefine how rural citizens interact with digital technology, ensuring that they are not left behind in the rapidly advancing digital age.
