Technip Energies, in a consortium with Turner Industries, has secured a significant Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract from ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions Onshore Storage LLC. This pivotal agreement encompasses the development of a Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) system for Nucor Corporation’s manufacturing plant in Convent, Louisiana. This innovative system aims to capture and store up to 800,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The CCUS System: Pioneering Sustainable Steel Production

The focus of this contract is the installation of a state-of-the-art CCUS system at the Nucor facility, North America’s leading steel producer and recycler. The Nucor site is noted for producing direct reduced iron (DRI), which when combined with recycled scrap, helps manufacture high-grade steel products utilized in various industries including automotive, home appliances, and more. The introduction of the CCUS system is set to enable the production of DRI with up to 80% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional methods, aligning with broader environmental goals.
