Tata Power said that its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 510MW hybrid power project in Karnataka with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL).
The hybrid power plant is expected to offset around 1540 MUs of CO2 emissions per year for Tata Power-DDL, which is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Delhi government.
According to Tata Power, the PPA is for 170MW solar and 340MW wind power.
The hybrid power project in Karnataka, expected to be one of the largest of its kind in India, is slated to be brought online within two years of signing the PPA.
Ganesh Srinivasan — Tata Power Delhi Distribution CEO said: “Aligned with the nation’s renewable energy mission, we are pleased to join hands with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited for our biggest hybrid energy tie-up. We are confident that this association will strengthen our commitment towards significantly enhancing the portion of sustainable energy in the overall supply mix.”
Tata Power Renewable Energy bagged the hybrid power project via a competitive bidding process. This was followed by the release of letter of award (LOA) by Tata Power-DDL, which is an extension of the earlier LOA of 255MW awarded last December.
Ashish Khanna — Tata Power Renewable Energy CEO said: “Tata Power Renewable has signed one of the largest PPAs in the country for a 510MW hybrid project, via competitive bidding, showcasing our future readiness and expertise in project execution skills. This partnership is significant in our quest to continue our journey as one of the torchbearers of the green and clean energy transition.”
