Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading entity in the renewable energy sector, has inked a Power Delivery Agreement (PDA) with Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India Pvt. Ltd. (SSMI). This pivotal agreement covers the development of a 28.125 MW AC Captive Solar Plant in Aachegaon, Solapur, Maharashtra. With an overall capacity of 120 MWp AC, the solar facility is expected to produce 61.875 Million Units (MUs) annually, satisfying SSMI’s green power requirements.

Solar Project Targets March 2024 Commissioning to Supply SSMI

The Aachegaon solar project is slated for commissioning by March 2024. This initiative is part of TPREL’s long-term strategy to address climate change, lower carbon footprints, and contribute to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The plant will notably reduce SSMI’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 42,534 tonnes annually, advancing its efforts to manufacture “Green Steel.”

Partnership Aligns with National Green Energy Policy and UN Sustainability Goals

The collaborative venture aligns with India’s National Green Energy policy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to fostering a clean energy ecosystem. “This collaboration perfectly describes our commitment towards clean and green energy solutions, which benefits the steel manufacturing unit by reducing CO2 emissions and costs,” stated Dilipkumar Pachpande, Managing Director of SSMI.

CEOs Applaud the Economic and Environmental Merits of the Project

Ashish Khanna, CEO of TPREL, praised the partnership, stating that it highlights the shared dedication to driving sustainable practices in the steel industry. “The government’s prioritization of captive power projects, driven by their economic and environmental merits, underscores their importance across various industries,” Khanna said.

TPREL Continues to Expand Its Renewable Energy Portfolio

This new 28.125 MW project is another feather in TPREL’s cap, which has already secured a Letter of Award (LoA) for a 966-MW RTC hybrid project. With this addition, TPREL’s total renewable capacity reaches 7,815 MW, including 3,683 MW of projects at various implementation stages. Its operational capacity stands at 4,132 MW, featuring 3,139 MW of solar and 993 MW of wind projects.

By aligning their shared vision for a sustainable future, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India Pvt. Ltd are setting a commendable example. The project not only significantly reduces carbon emissions but also stands as a cornerstone for future sustainable initiatives in the renewable energy and steel manufacturing sectors.
