Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEML) and Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL) have formed a strategic partnership to advance zero-emissions mobility in India, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable future. This collaboration merges TPEML’s leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) sector with TPREL’s prowess in renewable energy, focusing on integrating electric vehicles with solar rooftop systems to promote an eco-friendly transportation ecosystem.
The new initiative will allow TPEML customers to access solar rooftop installations through TPREL, while both companies will actively promote the benefits of electric vehicles and solar energy solutions to their customer bases. This partnership aims to enhance public awareness of how combining these technologies can offer both environmental and financial advantages.
Electric vehicles, which are known for their zero tailpipe emissions, and solar power systems, which produce clean, emissions-free electricity, play crucial roles in India’s strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions. The Indian government has been a strong advocate for EV adoption through various initiatives, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme aims to provide subsidised solar rooftop installations to one crore households, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy solutions.
The integration of electric vehicles with solar rooftop systems offers several notable benefits. He noted that a significant portion of EV owners already utilise home charging, with a substantial number also using solar rooftop systems. Chandra emphasized that this collaboration with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. is designed to democratise zero-emissions mobility, reduce customer running costs, and alleviate the environmental impact associated with traditional energy sources.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, also expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, describing the combination of solar rooftops and electric vehicles as a cost-effective and sustainable solution. He pointed out that both technologies cater to the same environmentally-conscious and value-driven customer segment. Dr. Sinha underscored the importance of this collaboration in promoting greater adoption of both solar rooftops and EVs, enabling customers to contribute to emission reductions while enjoying financial savings.
Tata Power is actively promoting solar rooftop systems through its nationwide campaign, ‘GharGharSolar, Tata Power ke Sangh’. With an extensive network of over 700 channel partners and retailers, Tata Power is working to expand solar rooftop adoption across India. The company has already served over 100,000 customers and installed a substantial number of home and public EV chargers across the country. TPREL’s extensive network of 5,600 public charging points, strategically located at prominent locations such as highways, hotels, malls, and offices, supports the growing demand for solar-powered EV charging solutions and plays a pivotal role in advancing e-mobility across India.
