Tampa General Hospital opens new AI-driven center CareComm
US-based Tampa General Hospital, in partnership with GE Healthcare, has opened CareComm, a new center to improve patient care and decrease costs using human and artificial intelligence (AI).
CareComm uses GE-developed technology and consists of 20 artificial intelligence apps, video walls with 38 large screens, 32 work stations, multiple computer systems, and a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
The 20 artificial intelligence apps or tiles provided by GE Healthcare at CareComm process hundreds of messages each minute apart from applying advanced analytics to give decision support for the staff.
Through the resources, the staff of Tampa General Hospital can anticipate patients and team members requirements, and make available rooms, equipment and medical professionals for patients as soon as they’re needed by avoiding communications silos.
Launching the CareComm center, Ron DeSantis – Governor of Florida, said: “CareComm is a new center at Tampa General Hospital that harnesses technology and ingenuity to further improve healthcare.
“They’ve broken down all these barriers and are able to achieve efficiencies and I think that’s great.”
Tampa General Hospital has already reduced the average patient’s length of stay in the hospital by about half a day and saved about $10 million through CareComm’s temporary facility, open since December and now moved into a new 8,000sft headquarters on the hospital’s main campus.
John Couris – president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital said: “CareComm is a huge step in our journey to become the safest and most innovative academic health system in the country.
“We’re grateful to our physicians, nurses, staff, and our GE Healthcare partners for helping us leverage technology to drive quality up and costs down. This means better care and lower costs for patients.”
Tampa General Hospital is a 1007-bed non-profit academic medical center while GE Healthcare is the $19 billion healthcare business of GE.
