TagEnergy, Vestas forge new path in renewable energy with 220MW wind portfolio in Spain

In a significant move for the renewable energy sector, global clean energy enterprise TagEnergy and wind power giant Vestas have announced a joint venture to develop a 220 megawatt (MW) wind portfolio in Castilla y León, Spain. This collaboration is poised to play a pivotal role in the renewable energy transition in Spain and the broader European context.

The agreement sees Vestas taking the lead as the developer, while TagEnergy will utilize its extensive experience in wind farm development to determine the most cost-efficient model for the project. This synergy combines Vestas’ technical expertise with TagEnergy’s innovative approaches to renewable energy.

TagEnergy will also bring its expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS), garnered through over 270 MW of BESS under construction in the UK, to potentially hybridize the projects. This integration aims to enhance grid stability, showcasing the evolving sophistication in renewable energy technology.

This co-development agreement in Spain builds upon the existing partnership between the Portugal-based independent power producer and Vestas. Their collaboration began with the 756 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm – East in Victoria, Australia, part of TagEnergy’s landmark 1,300 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm project. Vestas served as the lead engineering, procurement, construction provider, and long-term service and maintenance supplier for the first stage of the Australian project.

Jean-Baptiste Fournier, Deputy CEO of TagEnergy, expressed enthusiasm about the venture: “We are thrilled to join forces again with our proven partner Vestas to bring our joint capabilities to Spain as we work to speed the transition to renewable energy.” He emphasized the importance of Spain in TagEnergy’s project portfolio, noting their ongoing developments in solar PV plants and the Tabiella BESS project in Asturias.

Vestas Development holds approximately 30 GW of wind capacity in its pipeline and has already secured over 6.6 GW of firm projects. The company’s efforts contribute significantly to accelerating the clean energy transition. Furthermore, these projects bring substantial benefits to local communities, including green job creation and economic development.

The TagEnergy and Vestas partnership in Castilla y León represents a strategic and significant step in the renewable energy sector. By combining TagEnergy’s expertise in BESS and Vestas’ renowned wind technology, this project is not just about generating clean energy; it’s about innovating the way energy is produced and stored. This venture is a model for future renewable energy projects, showcasing how collaboration can lead to more efficient, sustainable, and community-beneficial outcomes.
