Suzlon to supply turbines for 204MW wind power project in Koppal

Suzlon Group, an Indian solutions provider, has secured a substantial order for its 3MW series of wind turbines from Serentica Renewables for a 204MW wind power project in , Karnataka.

Serentica Renewables is a decarbonization platform focused on accelerating the energy transition for energy-intensive industries.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply and install 68 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with a rated capacity of 3MW each. The turbines will be equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers.

The wind power project in Koppal is expected to be commissioned by early 2024.

Pratik Agarwal — Serentica Renewables Director said: “This partnership with Suzlon for our renewable energy project in Karnataka represents a milestone in our industrial decarbonization journey.

“Clean energy generated by this wind park will play a massive role in providing reliable and quality green power to our industrial customers, while contributing greatly to ‘s energy transition goal of 500GW by 2030.”

This marks the fifth order for Suzlon’s 3MW series within a month. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will handle the equipment supply and project execution including erection and commissioning, as well as provide comprehensive operation and maintenance services after commissioning.

Suzlon is committed to serve Indian industries through green renewable power to catalyse the nation’s economic growth while fulfilling our net-zero targets.”

Suzlon’s 3MW turbines feature a rotor diameter of 144 meters and are specifically designed to harness low wind sites and enhance energy yield, making them suitable for various wind regimes in India. With a high percentage of local content (85-90%) in its serial launch, this series underscores Suzlon’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance.

The S144 wind turbine generator, extendable up to 3.15MW depending on site wind conditions, is one of the largest in India. It offers a hub height ranging from 140 to 160 meters, making it the tallest wind turbine in the country at the 160-meter hub height.

Compared to Suzlon’s current model, the S120 – 2.1 MW wind turbine, the S144 fleet is projected to achieve a remarkable 40-43% increase in generation, showcasing its ability to optimize wind resources at higher altitudes and make low-wind sites economically viable.

Furthermore, the 3MW turbine generators employ the proven Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology and feature the SB 70.5 carbon fiber blades developed by Suzlon. This cutting-edge technology enables the utilization of thinner aerodynamic profiles, resulting in excellent performance in low-wind sites and significantly higher generation yield per unit of land.
