Stree 2 outperforms Kalki 2898 AD: How Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy became a box office sensation
Stree 2, the latest horror comedy featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has continued its remarkable box office run, reaching a new milestone. On its 13th day, the film accumulated an estimated ₹11.5 crore, marking a notable decline of nearly 38% from its Monday collections, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The Monday earnings were bolstered by the partial holiday for Janmashtami, during which the film earned ₹20 crore.
Despite the expected dip on Tuesday due to it being a working day, Stree 2 has maintained a strong presence with double-digit collections. The film’s total domestic earnings now stand at approximately ₹435 crore, with global collections crossing the ₹600 crore mark. This places Stree 2 as the second highest-grossing film of the year, trailing only behind Kalki 2898 AD, which has achieved a global gross of ₹1,000 crore.
Interestingly, Stree 2 has outperformed Kalki 2898 AD in terms of footfalls. According to Sacnilk, the horror comedy is now the second Indian film of the year to sell over 2 crore tickets, following Kalki 2898 AD. While Kalki 2898 AD sold 3.63 crore tickets across all languages, its Hindi version contributed 1.56 crore tickets. In contrast, Stree 2 has achieved this milestone with its Hindi release alone, selling 2.06 crore tickets. This surpasses Kalki 2898 AD and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, which has reported footfalls of 1.17 crore.
Looking ahead, Stree 2 will continue its run until October, when the next major release, Alia Bhatt’s Jigraa, is set to hit theaters on October 2.
