In a pivotal shift for the renewable energy landscape, Statkraft, Norway’s state-owned hydropower company, has acquired two renowned companies in the wind power domain: Njordr Offshore Wind AB, an offshore wind power developer, and Svevind Nordic AB, an onshore wind power development entity. This acquisition magnifies Statkraft’s commitment to bolstering Swedish renewable energy and steering the energy transition forward.
Svevind Nordic’s Integration and Potential
Svevind Nordic, renowned for its proficiency in project development, predominantly in onshore wind power, will now integrate into Statkraft’s operations. With a robust development project pipeline encompassing a whopping potential installed capacity of over 16,000 MW, this move is particularly noteworthy. Jakob Norström, CEO of Statkraft Sweden, expresses his excitement, “We are tremendously happy to… make an important contribution to our ambitions to grow in onshore wind power…” Wolfgang Kropp, SVEVIND Energy Group’s founder, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between the entities.
Njordr Offshore Wind’s Offshore Dominance
On the offshore front, Njordr Offshore Wind, birthed from a partnership between Njordr and Vindkraft Värmland, has curated a portfolio of early-stage offshore wind power projects. David Flood, Senior Vice President Offshore Wind at Statkraft, underscores the significance of this acquisition, emphasizing the ambition to ramp up offshore wind operations in Europe by 2040. The acquisition encompasses nine promising projects spread across various parts of the Swedish seas with an immense potential capacity of approximately 21,000 MW.
Work has now commenced to seamlessly integrate both Svevind Nordic and Njordr Offshore Wind into Statkraft’s operations, with specific brands maintained for operations outside the scope of this deal.
