Spanish firm Ecoener to expand into Greek market with 350MW renewable portfolio

Spanish renewable energy developer Ecoener is making significant strides in its international expansion plan with a substantial €300 million investment in the Greek market. Established in Greece through its subsidiary Ecoener Hellas in March 2023, the company is developing a substantial renewable portfolio of 350 MW, for which it has recently obtained the first administrative authorization.

First Administrative Licence for Renewable Projects in Greece

The Greek government has granted the first administrative licence for Ecoener’s initial 10 projects, marking a crucial step in the company’s expansion. Among these, two projects are notably advanced: a 42MW wind farm and a 50MW photovoltaic power station, both expected to be ready for construction by the end of 2025 and slated for grid connection in early 2027.

Additional Photovoltaic Solar Projects with Advanced Features

Ecoener is also developing eight additional photovoltaic solar projects in Greece, totaling 272MW in capacity. These projects, equipped with battery storage systems, aim to integrate seamlessly into the Greek electricity grid. The construction of these facilities will take place in various regions, including Epirus, Central Greece, Thessaly, Western Macedonia, and Central Macedonia.

Greece’s Ambitious Energy and Climate Goals

Ecoener’s investment in Greece aligns with the country’s National Energy and Climate Plan, which targets 23.5GW of installed capacity by 2030, accounting for 44% of Greece’s total power production. This investment is seen as a strategic move to tap into a market with extensive experience in renewable energy.

Ecoener’s Global Presence and Expansion

Apart from its venture in Greece, Ecoener has operating offices across Europe in Italy, Poland, and Romania. The company’s recent expansion includes launching two photovoltaic power stations in the Dominican Republic and plans to develop more projects, totaling $289 million in investment.

Sustainable Growth and Contribution to Global Energy Transition

With 341MW in operation and 352MW under construction, Ecoener is actively contributing to the global energy transition. The company’s investment in Greece exemplifies its commitment to sustainable development and its role as a key player in the global shift towards renewable energy.

Ecoener’s investment in Greece signifies a vital contribution to the global renewable energy landscape. By developing these projects, Ecoener is not only expanding its international footprint but also supporting Greece’s ambitious renewable energy targets. This move reflects the growing trend of energy companies investing in sustainable and renewable energy sources to meet the global demand for cleaner energy and combat climate change.
