SLB has announced a landmark contract award from Petrobras to its OneSubsea joint venture, marking a significant achievement in the development of Brazil’s offshore oil fields. This major contract, awarded after a competitive tender, involves the provision of subsea production systems and related services for two ultra-deepwater projects in the Santos Basin, a key region for pre-salt oil reserves.
Major Contract to Enhance Oil Production in Santos Basin
The contract covers the development of the Atapu and Sepia fields, where SLB OneSubsea will supply Petrobras-standard pre-salt vertical trees, subsea distribution units, subsea control systems, and pipeline systems. This extensive scope includes installation, commissioning, and life-of-field services. Much of the required technology and equipment, including the vertical trees and subsea control systems, will be produced and serviced locally at SLB OneSubsea’s facilities in Brazil.
This agreement is set to significantly advance Petrobras’ pre-salt initiatives, contributing to the expansion of offshore oil production in Brazil. The new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) platforms, P-84 for Atapu and P-85 for Sepia, will each have a daily production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil and a gas processing capability of 10 million cubic meters per day.
Strengthening Partnership with Petrobras
Mads Hjelmeland, Chief Executive Officer of SLB OneSubsea, highlighted that this contract deepens the partnership between SLB and Petrobras. He emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration in supporting Brazil’s energy sector. Hjelmeland noted that leveraging SLB’s locally developed technology platform will ensure timely delivery and maximize local content from Brazilian manufacturing and service facilities. He also pointed out that Brazil is a crucial market for SLB, and the company’s continued investments in the country are vital for its growth strategy in the region.
Investments and Technological Advancements
This contract forms part of Petrobras’ broader strategy to enhance its pre-salt investments, reinforcing its commitment to expanding offshore oil production capabilities. The addition of the FPSO platforms will bolster the production capacity and processing capabilities in the Santos Basin, supporting Brazil’s growing energy needs.
SLB’s commitment to local production and technology development underscores its dedication to supporting Brazil’s energy sector while advancing its own strategic interests in the region. The integration of locally produced equipment and services aligns with SLB’s broader goals of fostering regional growth and operational efficiency.
