Siemens Grid Software bags new contract with Northumbrian Water for smart water management

Siemens Grid Software has inked a new contract with Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) for the deployment of its EnergyIP MDM X platform. The deal aims to enhance NWG’s capacity to identify and manage household water leaks by connecting over one million smart water meters to Siemens’ data management platform by 2030.

Siemens’ SaaS Solution to Enhance Leak Detection

The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution provided by Siemens will allow NWG to analyze data from smart water meters that report to the cloud on an hourly basis. This advanced system will enable the utility company to flag household consumption irregularities and inform customers of potential leaks, meeting the UK water regulator Ofwat’s leakage and consumption reduction goals.

Northumbrian Water Group serves 4.5 million people in the North East and South East of England, including Essex & Suffolk Water. With Siemens’ technology, the company aims to be more effective in managing leaks and consumption, which is aligned with regulatory objectives. The project represents Siemens’ largest grid software deployment for the water industry in Europe to date.

Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Grid Software at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said, “Water is a precious resource, and we need to deal with it in the most sustainable way possible. EnergyIP MDM X will enable NWG to make the best use of their data to reduce leakage and water consumption across their network.”
