Shyam Metalics ramps up production and power capacities at Jamuria plant

Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited (SMEL), an integrated metal producing company based in Kolkata, has announced a significant increase in production capacities at its Jamuria manufacturing facility in West Bengal.

The enhancement includes a substantial expansion of the company’s captive power plant capacity by 90MW, jumping from 267MW to 357MW.

Presently, the company sources approximately 75% of its power requirements internally from the captive plant. The new addition will raise the internal sourcing to 80%, resulting in notable cost savings. In tandem with its power capacity expansion, Shyam Metalics and Energy has also commissioned an incremental sponge iron production capacity of 165,000 TPA. This move expands the total capacity to around 2.7 MTPA.
