Prominent figures such as actor Sai Dharam Tej condemned the remarks on X (formerly Twitter), labeling them as “gruesome, disgusting, and scary.” This denunciation swiftly garnered support, prompting Telangana’s Director General of Police, Ravi Gupta, to confirm the legal action. “Addressing the inappropriate comments on a child, an FIR has been filed with @TGCyberBureau, and strict actions will follow,” Gupta stated, underscoring the government’s resolve to safeguard children and promote responsible social media use.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also stepped forward, commending Tej for highlighting the issue and affirming, “Child safety is the utmost priority for our Government. We will look into this incident and take appropriate action.” The incident has not only sparked a call for stricter regulations on social media but also a reflection on the boundaries of humor and public speech.
Amidst the backlash, Praneeth issued an apology, acknowledging his “lapse in judgment” and clarifying that his intent was dark humor, not to trivialize child abuse. He also appealed for the public to refrain from targeting his family, expressing regret over the widespread condemnation his comments have received.
The Telangana Police’s Women’s Safety Wing has registered a case, promising stringent action, and coordination with Andhra Pradesh police is underway given Praneeth’s base in Andhra Pradesh. “We are identifying offenders misusing social media for humor and will ensure justice,” asserted DGP Gupta.
