Scarborough SSR project : Aecon, FCC Canada roped in as development partner
Aecon Group and FCC Canada under the Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) consortium have been roped in as the development partner for the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems project (Scarborough SSR project) in Ontario by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario.
According to Aecon Group, which is leading the 50:50 consortium, the SRS package is being delivered under a progressive design-build (PDB) model.
Scarborough Transit Connect has signed a development phase agreement with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx to work together on finalizing the scope, cost and schedule of multiple elements of the Scarborough SSR project over an 18-month period. During this phase, some of the early works activities are expected to begin.
After finishing the development phase successfully, an implementation phase will start under a target price contract, said Aecon Group.
Under the Scarborough SSR project, the Line 2 subway service of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be extended around 8km farther from the existing Kennedy Station northeast to McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue. The project includes the construction of three new stations with connections to Line 5, GO train and bus services, TTC bus service as well as Durham Region Transit.
The existing Line 3 will be replaced with the extension to enhance the customer experience by providing quick and smooth access to downtown and helping in cutting down travel times.
Jean-Louis Servranckx — Aecon Group President and CEO said: “Aecon is playing a leading role in delivering some of the most transformative transit projects of this generation and we are pleased to bring our proven Urban Transportation Solutions expertise to this world-class project that will connect communities in Scarborough and across Toronto.
