In a move set to revolutionise commuting in Chennai, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has unveiled the Ongo Ride NCMC card at 13 key metro stations. This initiative, launched in collaboration with Ongo, a digital payment platform operated by AGS Transact Technologies, aims to streamline the ticketing process and enhance commuter convenience.
Instant Ongo Ride NCMC Cards Available at Major Stations
From August 14, 2024, metro riders can purchase the new Ongo Ride NCMC cards at designated stations including Nandanam, Koyambedu, Guindy, Thousand Lights, Government Estate, Egmore, Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station, Thirumangalam, High Court, Kaladipet, Arignar Anna Alandur Metro, Vadapalani, and Airport. This non-KYC card provides a hassle-free alternative to traditional ticketing methods, significantly reducing the time required for purchasing travel cards.
The process for obtaining an Ongo Ride card is straightforward: commuters simply select their desired card at the dispenser, pay via Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and receive their card immediately. Each card comes preloaded with ₹50, which can be used for travel or topped up through the Ongo mobile app or any CMRL ticket counter.
Enhancing Convenience with Instant Dispensers
This new system complements the existing Singara Chennai Card, which offers integrated payment solutions for various transportation modes. By introducing these instant NCMC card dispensers, CMRL reaffirms its dedication to improving the commuting experience in Chennai.
As of August 12, 2024, CMRL has issued a total of 336,000 NCMC cards, reflecting the growing adoption of this convenient travel solution. The launch event was attended by Thiru M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Managing Director of CMRL, along with Thiru Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations), and Thiru T. Archunan, Director (Projects). Vinayak Goyal, Managing Director of India Transact Services Ltd, along with other senior officials and staff from both CMRL and Ongo, were also present.
This significant development marks a step forward in Chennai’s public transportation sector, aiming to provide a more efficient and user-friendly experience for metro commuters.
