Sandvik AB, a global engineering group specializing in mining and rock excavation, has announced a substantial equipment order worth approximately SEK 340 million from Cimertex, a distributor based in Portugal. This order is destined for Almina Minas do Alentejo S.A., enhancing its operations within Portugal’s Iberian pyrite belt. The deliveries are scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2024 and will continue through 2025.
The comprehensive order includes Toro TH663i trucks, Toro LH621i loaders, Sandvik DS411 rock bolters, and Sandvik DL421 longhole production drills. A notable feature of this order is that a majority of the Toro trucks will be equipped with AutoMine Fleet, Sandvik’s advanced automation system that allows a fleet of underground loaders and trucks to operate autonomously in the same production area. Additionally, the deal includes a seven-year full aftermarket service contract for Almina.
Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions, commented on the deal: “This agreement is a testament to the strength of our advanced mining equipment and the well-proven capabilities of our mining automation solutions. We are very pleased to deepen our long-term collaboration with Cimertex, and with the continued confidence from Almina. We look forward to supporting Almina as they work to improve productivity and reduce costs in their mining operations.”
This strategic acquisition is expected to enable Almina to double its current production capacity and will position Almina to operate one of the largest Sandvik fleets in Europe following the delivery of the new equipment.
In a separate announcement, Sandvik has also secured a major order valued at approximately SEK 500 million to supply intelligent underground drilling equipment to a mining customer in Southeast Asia. This order, which was booked in the second quarter of 2024, includes development drills, rock bolters, and longhole drills. Delivery is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2024 and extend through the second quarter of 2025.
These recent deals not only reinforce Sandvik’s global footprint in the mining sector but also showcase its commitment to technological innovation in mining automation. The orders from both Portugal and Southeast Asia underscore the industry’s trust in Sandvik’s equipment and its capability to enhance mining efficiency and safety.
