In a significant advancement for smart home management, Samsung Electronics has announced the global launch of its 3D Map View feature. Initially unveiled at CES 2024, this feature is now accessible in all countries where the SmartThings app is available, marking a pivotal step in the evolution of home automation.

The 3D Map View feature transforms real floor plans into interactive virtual images within the SmartThings app, allowing users to manage their devices with unprecedented ease. This includes adjustments to lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption from anywhere, at any time. Addressing the growing complexity of managing numerous connected devices in homes worldwide, Map View presents an innovative solution by providing a comprehensive, real-time view of the entire home as new devices are connected.

Initially launched in Korea and the United States, the feature’s global rollout signifies Samsung’s commitment to enhancing smart home experiences. Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s dedication to enabling effortless control of home devices for customers, indicating ongoing efforts to introduce additional services and features for an optimal smart home experience.

Samsung’s vision for Map View extends to apartments and office spaces, collaborating with construction companies to create smart environments across various settings. This expansion aims to offer an optimized user experience (UX) for larger screens and assist B2B operators with signage and Quick Control functions for easier access to key features.

The updated 3D Map View leverages Spatial AI in Samsung devices, such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™ equipped with LiDAR sensors, to precisely map a home’s layout. This marks an upgrade from the previous 2D model, offering users a more intuitive understanding of their homes’ spatial conditions on 3D maps. The feature also includes enhanced filter functions for efficient device monitoring and control, aiming to provide a more personalized and user-friendly service through AI characters introduced at CES 2024.

Available through the SmartThings app on Android and iOS devices, as well as TVs, Map View’s controls will be expanded to additional hubs, including Family Hub™ refrigerators, within the first half of the year. This widespread availability underscores Samsung’s ambition to empower users worldwide with advanced tools for managing their smart homes effectively.

Samsung Electronics’ 3D Map View feature represents a significant leap forward in smart home management technology. By integrating Spatial AI and LiDAR sensors for a comprehensive and intuitive home layout visualization, Samsung not only simplifies the user experience but also sets a new standard for home automation solutions. This initiative reflects the company’s innovative spirit and its commitment to driving advancements in the smart home sector, promising a future where smart home management is more accessible and efficient than ever before.
