Mumbai-based Sadhana Nitro Chem Ltd. (SNCL) has announced its transition to commercial production at its newly-established Para Aminophenol (pAP) plant. Remarkably, the facility ranks as the world’s second to derive pAP from Nitrobenzene—a sustainable method aligned with green chemistry principles. This contrasts with the conventional Para Nitro Chloro Benzene (PNCB) approach, which produces considerable effluent and harmful contaminants.
Benefits of Nitrobenzene Over PNCB in pAP Production
Opting for Nitrobenzene over PNCB in producing pAP promises zero effluent discharge, underlining Sadhana Nitro Chem’s commitment to environmentally-friendly manufacturing practices. The Nitrobenzene method also ensures that no chlorine-based ingredients are used, notably eliminating the presence of contaminants such as Para Chloro Aniline (PCA)—a substance increasingly under scrutiny due to its harmful effects.
Operational Journey of the pAP Plant
Despite initial projections for the plant’s launch in March 2022, regulatory challenges led to a delay. The plant eventually commenced operations in June 2022 in a batch mode. Transitioning from batch to continuous production necessitated meticulous modifications, spanning six months, before Sadhana Nitro Chem stabilized the plant to meet its targeted throughput and quality benchmarks. With a focus on quality, the company spent an additional four months refining product specifications to cater to international clientele.
SNCL’s Quality Enhancements and Global Recognition
Sadhana Nitro Chem takes pride in achieving a premium grade of pAP, surpassing standards set by global competitors, including those from China. This superior product quality has been acknowledged and endorsed by international clients.
Company’s Future Aspirations
With the foundational quality and production goals achieved, Sadhana Nitro Chem is geared towards broadening its supply chain to cater to a diversified clientele. Expansion plans are underway, with the company envisioning itself as the leading global manufacturer of pAP within the next three years.
Abhishek Javeri’s Perspective
Abhishek Javeri, MD of Sadhana Nitro Chem Ltd., articulated, “We’ve garnered product approvals from esteemed customers in regions like Europe, Japan, Turkey, among others. Reflecting on our investment of over 100 Crores into the pAP project in the last five years, it marks a pivotal moment in SNCL’s 50-year journey. We anticipate our future scaling endeavors to be more efficient in terms of time, space, and expenditure.”
