Raytheon partners with Spanish Firm Sener for GEM-T missile production

Raytheon, an RTX business (NYSE: RTX), has entered into a significant contract with Spanish engineering and technology group Sener to develop and produce key components for the Patriot GEM-T missile. This partnership marks a crucial step in expanding missile production capabilities within Europe, especially for NATO members.

Under the contract, Sener will develop the electro-mechanical control section of the Patriot GEM-T missile, a vital component in missile operation. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to boost air defense missile inventory for NATO and its European allies, amidst growing geopolitical tensions.

Pete Bata, Vice President of Global Patriot at Raytheon, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, stating, “Sener will play a critical role in supporting our expansion of GEM-T missile production capacity in Europe. Together with our broad—and growing—network of suppliers in the region, we are moving forward to increase this critical air defense missile inventory in support of NATO and our European Patriot allies.”

The contract is part of a larger agreement facilitated by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), which involves the production of up to 1,000 missiles destined for several nations, including Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Spain.

Sener’s involvement leverages its extensive experience in missile actuation and control systems, enhancing the company’s reputation as an international center of excellence in this technology domain. Rafael Orbe, General Director of Defense at Sener, expressed pride in the trust Raytheon has placed in their capabilities: “The Spanish defense industry has high technological capacities, and we are proud to put it at the service of Raytheon, our armed forces, and NATO allies.”

The GEM-T missile, an enhancement of the Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) interceptor, is designed to counter tactical ballistic missiles, serving as a primary effector in the globally relied upon Patriot air and missile defense system.

This partnership not only fortifies the defense capabilities of NATO members but also underscores the strategic collaborations essential for maintaining security across the European continent. With Sener’s contribution, the project aims to meet rigorous international defense standards and support the defense needs of numerous nations relying on the Patriot system.
