ProtonH2 takes giant leap in hydrogen revolution with major Project Apollo update
ProtonH2 has announced a major milestone for its ambitious Project Apollo, a cutting-edge initiative poised to produce 500 tons of low-carbon intensity (CI) hydrogen per day at a cost of less than $1.00 per kilogram. Situated in the Kerrobert area of Saskatchewan, Canada, the project signifies a pivotal step in ProtonH2’s mission to revolutionize the hydrogen economy and deliver sustainable energy solutions.
Selection of Propak Systems Ltd. as EPC Partner
Following a rigorous evaluation process, ProtonH2 has chosen Propak Systems Ltd. as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner for Project Apollo. Propak’s extensive experience in managing complex energy projects aligns seamlessly with ProtonH2’s vision of establishing a state-of-the-art hydrogen production facility. With the successful completion of the Pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) phase, ProtonH2 is now set to advance to the detailed design and execution stages of the project.
Paul Sandhu, CEO of ProtonH2, emphasized the significance of these developments: “Selecting Propak as our EPC partner and completing the Pre-FEED phase are crucial steps forward for Project Apollo. This project aims to redefine cost efficiency and sustainability within the energy sector. We look forward to collaborating with Propak to realize this vision and make a substantial contribution to the global hydrogen economy.”
Matt Drevenak, Managing Director of Energy Systems at Propak, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to be selected by ProtonH2 for Project Apollo. The combination of ProtonH2’s innovative technology and Propak’s proven ability to deliver full turnkey projects on time and within budget will be instrumental in the success of this venture.”
Technological Innovation and Sustainability at the Core
Project Apollo is set to utilize ProtonH2’s proprietary technology, which repurposes end-of-life oil and gas assets to produce low-CI hydrogen. By leveraging existing infrastructure and optimizing in-situ thermodynamics, ProtonH2 aims to achieve unparalleled cost efficiencies, positioning hydrogen as a competitive and viable energy source.
Construction for Project Apollo is slated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the initial hydrogen deliveries projected for the first half of 2025. Upon completion, the facility will be a critical component in addressing the growing demand for clean hydrogen, serving both domestic and international markets.
ProtonH2’s dedication to sustainability is central to Project Apollo. The initiative not only marks a significant advancement in hydrogen production technology but also reinforces ProtonH2’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering environmental stewardship. As the hydrogen economy continues to evolve, Project Apollo is poised to become a cornerstone of ProtonH2’s efforts to drive the transition to a low-carbon energy future.
