Portsmouth gaseous diffusion plant clean-up : Fluor Corp and partners secure $5.9bn DOE decommissioning contract

The (DOE) has chosen Southern Cleanup Company, a joint venture led by Amentum in partnership with Fluor Corporation and , for the Gaseous Diffusion Plant Decontamination and Decommissioning Contract.

This $5.87 billion contract covers a 10-year period, with potential extensions for tasks orders up to an additional five years. The joint venture’s responsibilities will encompass the demolition and disposal of facilities, process equipment, process buildings, and other facilities, as well as remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater, and uranium material disposition.

The DOE Portsmouth site, located in southern Ohio, is a 3,700-acre federal reservation established in the early 1950s. This former piece of the nation’s nuclear weapons complex was operational from 1954 until 2001, producing enriched uranium. Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth, LLC has managed the decontamination and decommissioning work at this site since March 2011.
