PM Modi launches Antony Waste’s waste to energy project in PimpriChinchwad

Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited (AWHCL), a frontrunner in integrated solid in India, celebrated the inauguration of its innovative Waste to Energy plant at PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (). The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, marked the occasion today, reflecting India’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and a sustainable future.

The Waste to Energy (WTE) project, situated at Moshi, PCMC, represents a significant advancement in waste management. With the capacity to process approximately 1,000 tons of Municipal Solid Waste daily, the plant is set to recover recyclable materials, produce compost, and generate around 14 Megawatts of clean energy. Fully compliant with environmental emission standards, the initiative sets a new precedent in responsible waste handling.

One distinctive aspect of the project is its alignment with India’s Green Energy Open Access Policy, making PCMC the first municipal corporation to utilize the plant’s electricity for captive consumption. This commitment underscores both AWHCL and PCMC’s dedication to sustainable energy practices.

Chairman & Managing Director of Limited, , expressed his enthusiasm on the inauguration, stating, “Today marks a momentous day for the Company as the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, graced the occasion with his presence. The inauguration of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Waste to Energy plant marks yet another step in helping India achieve its COP26 sustainable development goals.”

He further elaborated, “Our mission transcends mere waste management – it envisions a circular economy where waste becomes a catalyst for positive change. The Waste to Energy Project stands as a symbol of excellence, showcasing how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle waste to pave the way for a sustainable future. By diverting waste from landfills at Moshi, we will conserve resources and save an estimated ~7 lakhs tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to ~1.5 lakhs passenger cars’ emissions.”
