Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE), the US onshore subsidiary of Danish energy giant Ørsted, has issued the final Notice to proceed on the 230MW Plum Creek wind farm in Nebraska, as per the latest US wind industry news.
The notice follows the final investment decision taken on the Wayne County wind farm in Nebraska by Ørsted’s board of directors.
To be built in Wayne County, the Plum Creek wind farm is slated to begin operations in 2020. Once online, the new wind farm in Nebraska will produce enough energy to meet the power consumption needs of up to 100,000 homes annually.
Lincoln Clean Energy will now have 670MW of wind farms under construction in the US states of Texas, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
Plum Creek wind farm is backed by PPAs
The Ørsted had signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with The J.M. Smucker Company (60MW), Vail Resorts, and Avery Dennison Corporation to sell the power generated from the Plum Creek wind farm Nebraska.
Construction on the new Wayne County wind farm in Nebraska is likely to generate nearly 250 temporary jobs followed by 7-10 permanent jobs to handle its operations and maintenance.
Commenting on the Plum Creek wind farm Nebraska, Declan Flanagan – CEO of Lincoln Clean Energy said: “We are happy to announce that the Plum Creek facility has reached this important milestone that keeps us on target to achieve commercial operation by 2020.
“Plum Creek is an excellent addition to the growing LCE portfolio and expands our geographic footprint in the attractive Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, which serves the central United States.”
Recently, Lincoln Clean Energy commissioned the 184MW Lockett Wind Project in Wilbarger, Texas, which can produce 700,000 MWh of wind power to meet the electricity consumption of 70,000 homes.
