Penn State Health, a multi-hospital health system has revealed its intentions to build a new acute care hospital in Cumberland County in the US state of Pennsylvania, alongside Interstate 81.
To be constructed within the Wentworth Corporate Center in Hampden Township on an area of 44 acres, the new Penn State Health acute care hospital in Pennsylvania is slated to break ground in 2019 subject to receipt of mandatory approvals.
Penn State Health expects hundreds of jobs to be created during the construction of the new acute care hospital in Cumberland County and also once it becomes operational.
People living in the Cumberland and Perry counties and also the Harrisburg region do not have to travel all the way to Hershey once the new acute care hospital is opened, while giving them convenient access to its services, said Penn State Health.
Dr. Craig Hillemeier – CEO of Penn State Health, commenting on the new acute care hospital in Cumberland County, said: “When we announced our partnership with Highmark Health in December, we said we are focused on building a regional health network that offers comprehensive care closer to where our patients live.
“Cumberland County is booming with growth, and we want to ensure that the families in that area have easy access to high-quality and diverse health care services. This new facility is one way we can deliver on our commitment to ensure patients across the region are within 10 minutes of our Penn State Health primary care providers, 20 minutes of our specialty care providers and 30 minutes of a Penn State Health acute care facility.”
The 300,000 square-foot Penn State Health acute care hospital will comprise three floors to accommodate 108 private inpatient beds, an emergency department, specialty inpatient services, imaging and lab services, physician offices. It will be equipped with comprehensive medical and surgical capabilities.
The Penn State Health acute care hospital will also have an open medical staff. Penn State Health intends to create collaborative programs between its faculty physicians and independent community providers.
Penn State Health is now gearing up to file its land development plan relating to the new acute care hospital in Cumberland County with the Hampden Township to seek its approval.
