Paris Olympics 2024 : Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai lead India’s men’s archery team to quarterfinals
On July 25, Indian archers celebrated a significant milestone at the Paris Olympics 2024, as the men’s team, spearheaded by Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai, secured a place in the quarterfinals of the team event. A thrilling day for Indian archery

Earlier in the day, India‘s women’s archery team also achieved a quarterfinal berth, having secured fourth place in their team event. Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarundeep Rai were instrumental in securing the men’s team’s position. Despite a challenging start for Dhiraj, who scored 57 points from his initial round of six shots, he quickly adapted to the pressure. His performance improved significantly as he scored 56 points in the fourth round, including several 10-pointers. Dhiraj’s final rounds were particularly impressive, ending with a series of bullseyes that propelled him back into contention. His resurgence was crucial in the team’s progression.
Tarundeep Rai, on the other hand, had a mixed day. Although he secured six bullseyes in the first half of his rounds, he managed only two in the second half. Tarundeep’s final score of 337 points placed him 14th, reflecting the exact score he had after his initial rounds.
Women’s team also advances
India’s women’s archery team, consisting of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari, also secured their place in the quarterfinals. The trio delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth in the ranking round with a total score of 1983. Their achievement means they are now only two steps away from reaching the medal podium at the Paris Olympics.
