Otis India expands Bengaluru manufacturing facility to meet growing demand

Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS), has announced a significant expansion of its Bengaluru manufacturing facility. This move is set to enhance the company’s capacity and capabilities, addressing the growing demand for elevators and escalators across residential, commercial, and infrastructure sectors in India.

Otis Worldwide Corporation, a global leader in elevator and escalator manufacturing, has committed to bolstering its operations in India with this major expansion. The Bengaluru facility, originally established in 1996, has been instrumental in supporting India’s urbanization and infrastructure development.

Judy Marks, Chair, CEO, and President of Otis Worldwide Corporation, emphasized the company’s long-standing partnership with India, stating, “Otis has been a longstanding partner in India’s growth since 1892, and this investment will further strengthen our commitment and growth momentum in this critical market. The expansion will help us better serve our customers in India and export markets with innovative mobility solutions that support the rapid pace of urbanisation.” Marks made these remarks during the ground-breaking ceremony for the new facility expansion.

The Bengaluru plant, which boasts an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold certification, previously underwent an expansion in 2012 that doubled its capacity. The latest expansion is expected to increase the plant’s overall capacity by approximately 20 percent. This upgrade will enable Otis India to double its current escalator production capacity and enhance its ability to support India’s vital mobility infrastructure projects.

Sebi Joseph, President of Otis India, highlighted the facility’s critical role in current and future projects. “Bengaluru’s capabilities are helping to build modern metro systems, delivering 112 Gen2® elevators for the second phase of the Bengaluru Metro project and supplying 255 units for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects. Additionally, we’ll take another step in harnessing the power of digitalization for a smarter factory to meet our customers’ needs by innovating and improving productivity in transportation, logistics, and other areas of manufacturing.”
